Doon Harrow is the secondary protagonist of The Books of Ember, alongside Lina Mayfleet. He was formerly a Messenger before exchanging roles with Lina, obtaining the role of Pipeworks Laborer with hopes of repairing Ember's constantly flickering lights.

In the 2008 film, he was portrayed by English actor Harry Treadaway.

Description[]

Doon Harrow was described as having rumpled and uncombed brown hair. His eyebrows were dark and made him look quite serious and formed a unibrow during the arguably common times he turned angry.[1]

Personality[]

A widely noticeable trait of Doon's is the fact that he's extremely observant and very analytical and likes to study how things work, on the inside and outside. Adding on, Doon is extremely fond of insects and relatively small creatures, even going as far as taking sketches and notes of them in a journal he had titled "Crawling and Flying Things." Doon also enjoys taking things apart, tinkering with them, and reassembling them so as to learn how they work, a trait that seems to partially stem from his father. Doon has regularly demonstrated that he has quite the temper that has, at times, taken control of him to the point where he sincerely regrets it later.

Doon's early goal was to gain a position as an Electricians assistant so that he could receive the chance to work in the Generator and hopefully manage to figure out a way to repair it, this shows just how much he's willing to do just to help his fellow citizens.
